Thanksgiving all'italiana

You know, Thanksgiving is an american celebration, so in Italy we don't have it. However a lot of restaurant are beginning to celebrate it with a special dinner.
I love cooking for my family and i love celebrating, every occasion is perfect to throw a party! Don't you think?
So this year I decided to host a Thanksgiving dinner.

I'm so proud of what I made. I tried these recipes for the first time!
And everything was yummy!
I did not cook turkey, it is not so easy finding it in my city. But I made a good dinner I think!
I prepared a roast beef covered with puffy pastry, glazed carrots, potatoes au gratin, garlic bread and corn bread.
Do you like my dinner table?

I am thankful for a lot of little things that are in my life, one of a kind is my beautiful family. Especially I am thankful for my sister, because she supports me in every way. The last thing we shared together is LootCrate a geek-themed box. The one in the photo is the one of october, that is about Time. So you could recognize Doc Emmett Brown of Back to the Future movie! You probably know that october 21st 2015 is the day in wich Marty McFly comes to the future, our present. I love that vinyl figure, a lot!

So here you are the Google's Doodle of today. I say bye to you with this homage to Lucy Maud Montgomery, the famous writer of Anne of Green Gables (that in italian is, literally, Anne of Red Hair, if you like to know).

Dewey's 24 Readathon - October 2015

Can't wait to start this readathon! I wait for it for months, together with my sister. We are going to read, read, read the whole day!

Let's start!

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?  Naples, in Italy.
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?  "Dimentica il mio nome" by Zerocalcare.
3) Which snack are you most looking forward to? Tea!
4) Tell us a little something about yourself! I really love reading and I am a philosopher...
5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? I changed location, I am in a more quiet place.

HOUR 5
BOOKS: I finished Zerocalcare's Dimentica il tuo nome, that is so amazing that I will write another post for it. It is a beautiful and brilliant graphic novel. It shaped my mind and it let me understand an important thing about adulthood.

CHALLENGES:

I chose to make the Cover Escape challenge by Unabridged Chick.
I selected a book that I love, from the seies of Nancy Drew. I want to escape in this cover, among the beautiful lanscapes of Scotland and possibly with Nancy Drew!

The other challenge I took is the Goodreads Road Trip challenge.
I chose a song for an imaginary trip with the main character of the book I just finished.
It is "No one would riot for less" by Bright Eyes, a really sad song that suits perfectly with the sad mood of this graphic novel.

FOOD: I ate some sandwich for lunch (in Italy readathon starts at 14.00) and some chocolate and some fruits for snack, but now I am very hungry and can't wait to have my dinner!

HOUR 11

Books: I've read a collection of short stories by Ray Bradbury, a little book of 80 pages. I don't like it very much, onestly.
And I read a super awesome comic "Papernovela e Topokolossal", drawn by Silvia Ziche. It was super funny! Like every Disney published comic!

Food: Panfried chicken! Oh yes, finally I had my dinner! But I am still hungry!

HOUR 22

Sleep: 8 hours! I need them!

Books: a collection of short stories by Sebastiano Vassalli

Food: My breakfast, with a book surely!

HOUR 24

Closing Survey

Which hour was most daunting for you? The night hours...
Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a Reader engaged for next year? The whole Nancy Drew series.
Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year? More Facebook!
What do you think worked really well in this year’s Read-a-thon? Everything is perfect.
How many books did you read? 4.
Which book did you enjoy most? "Dimentica il mio nome" by Zerocalcare.
Which did you enjoy least? The short stories of Bradbury.
How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? I will sure participate in the next readathon. It's a kind of family tradition for me.
What role would you be likely to take next time? Last time I made cheerleading, this time I dedicate myself to reading and it was perfect. I love the social part of readathon, but it tooks me a lot of time, perhaps I have to use some speedy social network like Instagram or Twitter...

SNAPSHOTS of MY READATHON:

Social Zoo+Pizza Fries

Easy Peasy! One snack and one book: pizza friesSocial Zoo. Awesome duet!

Social Zoo was not translated in other languages, but if you are learning italian you could buy the e-book and give it a try. The book is an epistolary novel written with a lot of humor. Some people, who don't know each other, write to Lorenzo who never replies. He becomes for these people a kind of conscience, so they can live their own lives while the novel goes on.
It's a very original story, but it is also a book full of literary references. In this bond lies its brilliance.

The best snack for this reading? This crazy Pizza Fries, by Oh, bite it!
Pizza crust, marinaa sauce, mozzarella cheese... I have to try them!

A little gift to you:
Visit the on-line gallery of Heather Theurer, an artist that has painted the Disney princesses using Leonardo Da Vinci's style. Awesome!

Leggo ogni piccola parolina.
Sorrido, mi crogiolo nell'attesa.
Scarto, annuso, mangio.

Come questi tre prodotti.

I really love eating new products.
It's a kind of ritual for me.
I observe the package with a great attention.
I read every single little world.
I luxuriate in my expectations.
I unwrap, sniff, eat.

And the best things are the limited edition of my fav products!
This is a list of the three best products that gave a strong taste to my summer.

L'Estathé alla menta     Mint Estathé

Mentoso, freschissimo, buonissimo. D'altronde è Estathé!

An iced tea strongly minty and rich of freshness.

Do you know Carbonara? It is a very famous italian dish. It's a dish pasta dressed with a special creamy sauce made of eggs, bacon and cheese. So now imagine this beautiful flavour mixed with crispy potato chips: it's Heaven!

Algida is a brand spread all over the world, with different names. And often different products. This is a very famous ice cream, Cremino, but with a twist: it is covered with a white chocolate coating.

And you? Which products did you discover this summer?

I chose this photo because I'm reading "Night train to Lisbon" in which the main character is a philologist who has always lived in his books and found a comfort-zone in bookshops. He often watches the events of his life from an external point of view, as if he were in front of a shop-window.

Buone letture!

---------

Today is a great day! It's the World Book Day! So guys have fun and read a lot!

Do you know that today in Spain people exchange roses and books? It's better than Valentine's day! This is an ancient tradition to celebrate Saint George who gave a rose to a princess, after defeating the dragon.

To celebrate World Book Day in Italy has been promoted the initiative #ioleggoperché (literally i-read-because)and I decided to become a messenger. My job is to spread the love of reading, giving around the books that I received expressly for that. Will I succeed in rising new readers?

I think that reading is a magic thing. Reading has been with me since I was a child. I lived thousands lives thanks to the books I have read. I dreamed, travelled, learnt. Books are my home.

So I decided to join Dewey's Readathon. It's a faboulous marathon, in which you have to read read and read! I love it because reading becomes a social moment that you can share with hundreds of people from all around the world. Me and my sister wrote a post about it. If you want, you can read it here!

A Year of Books

The End of Power
The Better Angels of Our Nature
Gang Leader for a Day
On Immunity
Creativity, Inc.
The Structure of Scientific Revolutions
Rational Ritual

Gang Leader for a Day

Cliccate sulla pagina Facebook ufficiale A Year of Books, mettete "Mi piace" e leggete!!!

-------------

This year Mark Zuckerberg has taken up a literary challenge. He chose to read a book every other week and sharing this experience with hundreds of people, on Facebook. I love reading and sharing the reading experience, so I joined this Global Book Club. I'm having a lot of fun, even if every book Mark suggests is an essay.

Seven are the books that have been suggested until now:
The End of Power
The Better Angels of Our Nature
Gang Leader for a Day
On Immunity
Creativity, Inc.
The Structure of Scientific Revolutions
Rational Ritual

I started every book, but I've not finished many of them, because of a lack of time. However I suggest you to read at least this two books:

Gang Leader for a Day
di Sudhir Venkatesh

What is: The personal story of a young sociologist who studied a Chicago-based crack-dealing gang.
I liked it because: It seems a novel, easy-to-read and very interesting. This book underlines the difference between people raised in different environments.

Creativity, Inc.
di Ed Catmul

What is: An essay about the power of creativity and originality.
I liked it because: The book is written by the co-founder of Pixar. And who did not love Pixar?

So Join me during this journey!  Like the official Facebook page A Year of Books and share with me your reading experience!
